40 meters lines to enter Squash Courts: This is the New Norm

With over 400 kids per day entering the interactiveSQUASH showcase court at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires we can safely say that we have positively disrupted the sport. By combining what is classically good about squash with the latest technologies the result is something undeniably more relevant for the new generations.

Helping to bring squash closer than ever to becoming an official Olympic sport is no small feat, but making it more attractive for the young public is actually the ultimate prize. This not only allows for the health of the modality today, by keeping clubs in business, but it also translates into tomorrow’s success as we expand the contingent of players exponentially.

Pablo Serna, VP of the World Squash Federation and one of the major proponents of the technological advancements among squash’s governing bodies comments on the Youth Olympic Games:

“What we have experienced in Buenos Aires during YOG is a breakthrough in our sport. Having been able to produce such an innovative showcase using a state of the art interactive wall we managed to totally change people’s perception about our sport. With 38 players from 5 continents showing squash’s full potential to world during an Olympic event it is safe to say that is highest milestone we have achieved. New technologies incorporated in sports take us to explore new possibilities. The last time our sport had such a big change was more than 20 years ago when full glass courts were introduced, now pairing those with interactiveSQUASH that can be installed in any court will open the sport to many new enthusiasts”

Simon Rösner, Squash World’s No. 5 player, is thrilled to be the first professional squash athlete to gain all the advantages of training daily with interactiveSQUASH at Paderborner Squash Club (Germany)

Squash club owners are taking up action around the world to join the new era in squash and become squash clubs technology pioneers with the introduction of interactiveSQUASH in their facilities.

This time, the protagonist is the Paderborner Squash Club, in Germany, which counts with 10 squash courts, coaching services, sport shop, sauna and bistro restaurant. The club offers top service and hosts some pro players to carry out their daily training, as Simon Rösner, World No. 5.

Simon is really aware of all the advantages that interactiveSQUASH brings to the development and improvement of his training and the new way of bringing other generations to squash courts, motivated by the refreshed and fun side that interactiveSQUASH offers to kids and youngsters.

Other squash athletes around the world had the chance to try out interactiveSQUASH at ATCO PSA Dubai World Series Finals 2017-2018 and also realised about the great advantages of interactiveSQUASH and its meaning for the future of the sport:

Ali Farag, World No. 2: “Data analytics provided by interactiveSQUASH at PSA SquashTV tournaments is without a doubt a big step for our game. it enables pros to get access to their movements and shots on court, using them afterwards to improve our training”.

A very entertaining system to learn how to play squash in a different way, using objects, lines, colours, etc. that help us to improve our accuracy and control of the ball. It is like having a coach in another dimension! I would like to use interactiveSQUASH for my daily training”.

Sarah-Jane Perry, World No. 8: “I think interactiveSQUASH is fantastic, particularly for getting children to enjoy our wonderful sport from the moment they step on court by engaging them in fun games which provide real time rewards. The possibilities for training at professional level are endless and the instant feedback and stats simply can’t be attained any other way”.

Having these feedbacks, squash clubs which use to have pro players for their training, should consider incorporating the system, as it would help enhance athletes’ skills and they will get track results of their sessions. We don’t stop innovating in our games

The latest development in our games brought another feature that came up from an experiment of combining motion tracking and keeping the squash ball in play. The idea is, to incorporate both input mechanisms to see different gameplay mechanics at work at the same time and how the players manage to handle it.

A simple game was raised from this objective: “Hungry Snail”, bringing gamification in sports further and including the player itself participating in the game.In this case, the player directly represents a snail that moves around to feed with the food that pops up when hitting the wall with a squash ball.

On the first stages of the prototype, we found out that hitting the ball, and moving targets while the player is in action, resulted exhausting for most of the players, specially for solo gaming.

As a result, the game is very efficient for all ages since it is visualised as a joyful game with colours, sounds, music and cute illustration plus offers the possibility of a very intense training session.

Other latest games released is focused on accuracy and movement. “Bombs” is the perfect combination between fun and training and it is easy to learn but hard to master.

It’s score is your survival time, down to the second digit. The Player has to hit the ever faster appearing bombs to avoid gameover as long as he can. Always motivating you to match the highest scores, it makes the game highly competitive and engaging.

Future features will be incorporated in this game, like a rank of levels. Moreover, the game also brings the opportunity to be played on the multiBALL system.

The Future of Squash has arrived to Howick Squash Club! Auckland, New Zealand

interactiveSQUASH expansion has reached the Southern Hemisphere and a new continent! This time the squash visionaries Howick Squash Club are the protagonists. Being aware of the revolution it means to the sport and increased court occupation rates, Howick Squash Club decided to join the new era of squash and go further in its excellence.

Founded in 1980, Howick Squash Club is one of Auckland’s most modern squash facilities, featuring four glass-back singles courts that can be transformed into two doubles courts thanks to the advanced movable walls they own.

The club is very active and the facilities and activities organised offer participation opportunities for players for all ages and levels. It also includes coaching service and other amenities on site including a shop, physic clinic, bar and kitchen, warm-up gym and conference facilites. Everything brings the perfect harmony to deliver the highest experience in squash.

The system was covered by a donation from the Stevenson Trust headed by chairman John Russell. Stevenson Village Trust Board is excited to be supporting the Howick Squash Club with the new interactiveSQUASH system:

“We see this as a great opportunity to involve more youth to play squash. It will provide an innovative way for players to want to become involved. This system allows players to try and improve their game through a new exciting interactive front wall display.”

The club president, Brett Meyer is very grateful for his contribution, in the aim of providing a new image to the sport and bring new players to squash courts:

A special chapter about interactiveSQUASH being installed in New Zealand was dedicated in the website of Squash New Zealand, the national governing body for squash in the country.

It is a chance to bring a new generation of tech-savvy players into sport. The inbuilt coaching modules can be used for training with national and regional squads.”
