It’s an exciting day for all of us here at interactiveSQUASH as we officially launch the new interactiveSQUASH app. We’ve put a lot of effort into making the best possible training companion that will considerably enhance the overall squash experience.

We wanted to share 5 of the main features of the new free app, which is available for download.

1. Control the Court

The interactiveSQUASH app allows you to easily change between games and training modules from your phone. It’s simple, select your court, press to activate and you gain full control of the court.

Start with a quick warmup, take on a few training modules, and finish with a few games, the decision is yours!

2. Access Tutorials

Another great feature is that you have access to video demos for each of the training modules and games.  Simply select the specific game or training module you’d like to activate and click on the Play Demo button for a short introductory video.

Watch before you get on the court or while you’re there, the choice is up to you.

3. Track your Statistics

One of the best features is that you can keep track your personal statistics for each and every training module and game you play. Key statistics provided include Time played, Calories burned, Overall Score, Hit/Miss Ratio and much more.

All of your statistics are stored within the app, and you can access them directly after your workout or later on when you’d like to go over your training session.

4. Compete Worldwide

Your results and scores are automatically uploaded to an international leaderboard. Engage in friendly competition with people around the world. Become the Drive master or achieve the highest level in Squash Invaders. It’s time to prove that you’ve got what it takes to be a champion.

5. Get the Latest News

In addition to having access to all the benefits of an interactiveSQUASH court,  you can also stay in the loop when it comes to the latest interactiveSQUASH news. All blog posts are accessible on the app, and you can choose to sign up for the newsletter as well. Whenever there’s a new development, you’ll be the first to know.

Munich’s edition of AirportSQUASH was a groundbreaking success.

The two-week event that took place this past April showcased a state-of-the-art interactiveSQUASH/ASB ShowGlassCourt which was fully accessible to the public.

Over 600 people played on the court, 75 000 stopped by, and the initiative reached 1.7 Million people in total, many of them via the numerous live feeds of professionals Grégory Gaultier, Simon Rösner, and Paul Coll playing interactiveSQUASH.

If you didn’t have the chance to make it to the event, here’s a quick summary of the event and what’s coming up next.

The 10-day event ran from April 19th to 28th and brought the glass court experience to the public for the first time ever. For any squash player, getting some time on a glass court represents the ultimate sporting experience. Equipping the court with the interactiveSQUASH system made for an unforgettable experience for hundreds of players, beginners and professionals alike.

Although we had some chilly weather (yes it snowed one or two days), people could not get enough of the court, and after a few minutes of play, many took off their jumpers and sweatpants in favour of shirts and shorts.

Some of the Professional Squash Association (PSA)’s biggest stars stopped by to see what all the fuss was about. Current World no.2, 10 & 13 Grégory Gaultier, Simon Rösner, and Paul Coll all had a few hours of playing time on the court. Watching a game of Darts or Area Chase between the pros garnered a lot of attention from people passing-by and thousands of people watched lived online.

The next generation of squash players try out interactiveSQUASH for the first time.

Airport Squash was just the beginning. We’re gearing up for a whole new chapter of the sport.

Airport Squash has been a huge success and we’re extremely thankful for all the positive feedback we’ve received from pros, avid squash players, amateurs, and people simply passing by at the airport.

This past week, a variety of special guests and professionals, both past and present, tested out the state-of-the-art interactiveSQUASH/ASB ShowGlassCourt including  current World no.1 Grégory Gaultier, German pros Simon Rösner and Jens Schoor, and Paul ‘Superman’ Coll. Dozens of local squash enthusiasts also booked hours of play on the court, and many had their first experience playing interactiveSQUASH.

Markos Kern, Founder of interactiveSQUASH, is more than happy with the success of Airport Squash. Having only been initiated to the sport recently, Kern has worked quickly to create a whole new direction for squash, one that seeks to engage a whole new audience while providing a new approach for seasoned players.

The future of squash is a bright one if you ask Kern, who wants to build on the success of Airport Squash and move forward, organising more events like this one. Not only does Kern want to equip existing squash courts with interactiveSQUASH systems, he wishes to provide more opportunities for the public to access world-class experiences such as playing on a glass court. It’s all part of a strategy to awaken the ‘sleeping giant’ that is the sport of squash.

We’re gearing up for a great weekend of squash.

It’s Day 3 of Airport Squash and so far people are having a great time. It’s been a cold week in Munich but that hasn’t kept anyone from enjoying a few games of squash on the interactiveSQUASH/ASB SquashCourts ShowGlassCourt. Luckily, the weather is looking good for the next few days, just in time for the weekend.

We wanted to give you the inside scoop on what’s happening on the court and 3 reasons why you should check out Airport Squash this weekend.

1. See the Pros

We’ve got a full line-up of appearances from some of the Squash world’s best players coming to try the interactiveSQUASH/ASB SquashCourts ShowGlassCourt this weekend. Germany’s own Simon Rösner, current world no.1 Grégory Gaultier, and New Zealand sensation Paul Coll will all be stopping by Airport Squash this weekend. If you’re lucky, you might get to see them play too!

2. Play with a Pro

Feeling particularly good about your squash game? Why not challenge 11-Time German National Title Winner and current World no.10 Simon Rösner to a few games of interactiveSQUASH. The pro will be at the court this evening and tomorrow during the day. There are still a couple slots open if you’d like to meet and play with Simon. 3. Open Play

If you’re not sure what interactiveSQUASH is and want to try out a couple of games, come say hello and see this state-of-art glass court at the Munich Airport Center. We’ve scheduled some Open Play/Drop-In hours so you can simply try it out for yourself. Come by between 19:00 and 21:00 today, 19:00-20:00 Saturday, or 13:00-14:00 and 19:00-20:00 on Sunday to play a game or two!

The public event begins tommorow and runs until Friday, April 28th.

After more than a week of preparations, the first ever interactiveSQUASH/ASB ShowGlassCourt is almost complete and ready for action at the Munich Airport Center.

The court has been the object of increasing curiosity for patrons and will be the center of attention at the Airport for the next ten days during the airportSQUASH event.

This will be the first ever time the public can play on an ASB ShowGlassCourt, typically reserved for professional tournaments across the world. Combined with the innovative interactiveSQUASH system, this will be a world-class experience and we’re happy to say that it will be open to squash players and enthusiasts of all ages and levels. Although it may be a chilly start to the event, once you start playing interactiveSQUASH you’ll be sure to warm right up.

ASB SquashCourts have installed their state-of-the-art glass floor on the court, making the interactiveSQUASH/ASB ShowGlassCourt one of the most technologically advanced Squash courts ever built.  In addition, Beamershop 24 has provided the court with one of the latest projectors and projector foil that will immerse the player in a gaming and training experience like none other.

Play like & see the Pros

Of course we don’t want to limit the entrees to only startup owners or squash players. Whether you are a squash player or not, or you just want to pop by for a drink and a chat about the startup community, we would love to welcome you here. Racquets, shoes, changing rooms, and showers will be provided on site.

Play with a Pro at Airport Squash

Last week we announced that interactiveSQUASH in partnership with ASB SquashCourts will be installing an ASB ShowGlassCourt at Munich Airport from April 19th – 28th. We’re beyond excited for this upcoming event especially since it will be the first time the public can play on one of these state-of-the-art glass courts, usually reserved for professional squash tournaments.

This is a big deal. For many squash enthusiasts, playing on a glass court represents the ultimate squash experience. ASB ShowGlassCourts have been installed around the world, most famously at the Pyramids of Giza. interactiveSQUASH alongside ASB SquashCourts, Beamershop24 , ROWE Motor Oil, and UNSQUASHABLE have worked hard to bring this once-in-a-lifetime experience to players of all levels, both young and old.   

With just over a month to go before we get on the court, spots are already filling up quickly! Be sure to book an hour on the court here before the early-bird price increases or all time slots are gone. You can book between 09:00 – 21:00 daily. In addition, we’ll also have drop-in times every day between 11:00 – 14:00 and 19:00 – 20:00. Why not stop by and play a few games?

We are also pleased to announce that Germany’s leading squash player (11 National Titles to his name!) and current World #9 Simon Rösner will be playing on the interactiveSquash-ASB ShowGlassCourt on Friday, April 21st and Saturday, April 22nd. Rackets (courtesy of UNSQUASHABLE) and the balls will be provided. Non-marking indoor shoes (which are mandatory) can be rented on site. You can also access showers for free within the airport so no need to drive home sweaty.

We all know squash players can be, well… a little eccentric.

If you’ve ever watched a heated match, you will have surely witnessed a few fits of anger because of an accidental collision or a questionable call. If you haven’t, here’s a taste of some ‘squash rage’.  Are you extra frustrated because you’re trusted squash partner has canceled last minute… again? An individual training session is the perfect remedy.

Who said a solo training session couldn’t be fun?

It’s Friday night. Since your partner has canceled you’re thinking whether or not you should just skip squash. It’s been a long week at work though, and you’ve been sitting at your desk for far too long. A solo training session would do just the trick but it’s Friday and you still want to have a little fun after all.

What to do? Lace up, get your racket, get your butt to the court.

It’s time to embrace that inner introvert and get some much needed ‘me time’ on the court. Your serve could use a little fine-tuning and your drive could use a power boost. A solo hour on the court should help you along nicely.

After a brief tutorial from a staff member, all set to start. You walk onto the court, and are welcomed by a voice from above, not so alone after all. Time to choose your training module. You extend your hand and touch the front wall, which is no longer a wall, but rather a massive screen. You wanted to boost your drive right? Longline is the perfect program to start with.

As you drive your ball down along the wall, the target area progressively becomes smaller and all of a sudden, your inner competitor is unleashed. You notice that the previous player had a high score of 30 successful hits in a row within the area, and you make it your goal to surpass it.

10 minutes on, you still can’t get pass 25 hits, so you decide it’s time for a water break. Outside, the staff member asks how you’re enjoying the court, you can’t help but smile as this is completely different from anything you’ve ever done.

The staff member suggests that you should download the Smartphone app so you can fully access all your training statistics. A couple of clicks later and it’s on your phone and just like that, a rather lonely Friday evening has turned into a worldwide competition. You can now compare your stats and scores for every training module and game with other players across the planet.

In the coming months, we’ll be releasing a new feature that will completely change the way the sport of squash is played. 

The interactiveSQUASH system has already revolutionised squash by integrating technology and the traditional sport. Now, we are preparing to launch live video tracking and analysis. This update will enable players to analyse their realtime performance in addition to accessing footage through the interactiveSQUASH App. This article will provide you with exclusive details concerning the upcoming update and what it means for the sport, for both pros and beginners. 

Video tracking and analysis

We’ve worked diligently to update all existing first generation interactiveSQUASH systems with the video tracking and analysis feature, although is has not yet been officially launched. The new video tracking and analysis feature will be available with the second generation of the interactiveSQUASH system, ready for shipment through our partners ASB SquashCourts. Included in this fully functional package is a set of 4 cameras that track players’ movements from a variety of angles.

The video tracking and analysis feature is a comprehensive platform that will completely change how players train and play. Imagine a system which enables you to analyse every move you make and every shot you take in realtime. The video recordings will provide immediate feedback for coaches and players alike and will be fully accessible from the App. 

The video tracking and analysis tool will also impact your realtime training or playing session. For instance, we already have a system to train your drive. With the new video tracking platform, the system will be operated by intelligent A.I. As a result, it can let you know if you’re too far or too close to the wall when hitting your drives. If this is the case, an alarm will sound and you’ll know right away to step back into the appropriate zone. These are just a few examples of how video tracking will change how you train and play. 

Pairing with the App 

The interactiveSQUASH App allows every player to access a comprehensive set of key statistics and their personal video tracking footage. The potential benefit of having access to this tool can’t be understated. Imagine having a highly competitive game with a training partner and then being able to go over your performance during or immediately after a point. You could easily determine what technique and/or strategy worked best and then utilise those winning techniques and strategies in further games.

Once the video tracking and analysis platform is launched, a new version of the interactiveSQUASH App will be available for download. This way, you can fully access and utilise this new update. 

By accessing the App, players obtain valuable statistics and realtime feedback. All footage remains private, at the discretion of the player. However, you may choose to share it with a coach or other players for example. This represents a completely new and revolutionary way of training.

How it works 

As mentioned above, the upcoming video tracking and analysis feature consists of 4 individual cameras strategically placed within the squash court. 2 cameras are located right within the interactiveSQUASH glass tin. 1 camera is fixed on the ceiling. Finally, 1 camera is placed on the back wall above the entrance. For this final camera, our partner ASB SquashCourts also provides a holding bracket for glass back walls. These multiple camera angles provide a comprehensive view of play. 

What are the advantages of having access to video tracking and analysis? Motion tracking will provide players with a wealth of statistics. For example, running speed, how fast they’re returning to the ’T’, and much more. Coaches will be able to provide immediate feedback based on realtime video. In addition, they can go over footage afterwards with their trainees. This means they can analyse their performance and clearly identify necessary areas of improvement. This is crucial for professionals who are continuously seeking to improve their skills. It is also be indispensable for beginners who will be able to track their progress. 

The Potential 

Aside from providing players with realtime feedback and a wealth of statistics, video tracking has the potential to change the way coaches interact with their trainees. Not only will coaches be able to go over performances or training sessions side by side with their players, they will even be able to communicate or assess their players’ performances over long distances, opening up the possibility for remote coaching.

Remote coaching represents one of the major breakthroughs provided by realtime video tracking and analysis. For the first time, coaches will be able to train with players in different courts, cities, or even countries. This capability will make coaching for beginners and professionals more accessible and can ultimately change the way the sport is taught and played.

Now that you have an idea of how video tracking and analysis works and how it can drastically improve the overall squash training and playing session, you must be wondering when this feature will be available at an interactiveSQUASH court near you. 

The platform will be included at no additional cost with all first generation interactiveSQUASH systems (even those recently shipped in the past few weeks) and with the coming second generation interactiveSQUASH systems all of which are shipped through our partner ASB SquashCourts. The new video tracking and analysis feature, in addition to a new version of the App, will be fully functional on the interactiveSQUASH platform in Summer 2017.

On January 28th last year I was scheduled to meet a friend in Dubai for a session of clay pigeon shooting. Due to a sandstorm we had to cancel and my friend suggested to play my first hour of a game called squash instead. It was this day the idea of interactiveSQUASH was born.

I’m a very hyperactive and competitive person, needless to say I was more than excited. My opponent did not leave the slightest chance for me to score even one point which is exactly the kind of motivation that made me push my limits that day. I’m different than most people. I’m a self made creative entrepreneur, sleeping very little, and like the extreme. I started my first company at the age of 21, producing art installations in the Sahara and on icebergs in Antarctica, created a surf school in North Korea, and find myself constantly traveling all over the world. All of a sudden, I was surprised to find this so-called ‘old’ sport that seemed to be exactly my type of thing. 

Two things caught my attention that day. First, I wondered why I had never tried squash before and why the image of this sport is not what it is supposed to be. Second, on another court I saw a player doing his solo sessions and thought “how dull!”

It was that day, exactly one year ago, that I had the vision to create interactiveSQUASH. The last twelve months have been more than wild. We dove deep into the international squash scene with the aim to revolutionise and update squash and its image. Squash is rather special, and I’d say this goes both ways. I met so many lovely people involved in this outstanding sport from all over the world from China to the US, Egypt to Sweden, Squash is small but everywhere. On the other hand, the sport also has plenty of issues including a totally outdated image and reputation, with many centres closing and a decreasing numbers of players in many countries. This is what we work on. interactiveSQUASH is not just a technical addition, not just a platform, it’s one part of a much bigger movement for the whole sport.

We are very satisfied with what we achieved in our first year, but we have just begun. In the next days and weeks we will launch our app which will revolutionise squash training and fun that extra step more. For the first time the sport will be fully trackable and create statistics for each player to refine their game. Courts worldwide are beginning to upgrade and players and soon-to-be and professionals, can’t wait to play on our system.

I’m very happy to announce that the first systems will already ship with the second generation of hardware. This means that we were able to include some special surprises that will be available with the next coming updates of our software. We will announce these new developments in the following days to come.

It’s important to highlight that many people put a lot (both sweat and tears) into developing interactiveSQUASH. To all our friends and partners who’ve contributed along the way, on and off the squash court, I thank you. The future of the sport is ours to create.
